Squad Timetable

Squad Structure

Entry and progression through squad levels is based on meeting specific criteria.

Development Squad

11 years & under
3 sessions offered per week – must attend 2.

Swimmer development is primarily focused on technique and baseline race skills, working toward stroke efficiency and ultimate race speed. 

There is minimal obligation to compete regularly, apart targeted meets and at Club / District Aggregate Competitions.

Emerging Squad

13 years & under
4 sessions offered per week – must attend 3.

Squad membership is focused toward meeting State Longcourse qualifying times or possibly having a current Victorian sprint qualifying time.

Members must be deemed technically competent across 2 of 4 strokes and approved by the Head Coach in consultation with the Emerging Coach to train at this level.

Members must compete at designated competitions, with a focus at District and encouragement level and meet the required number of training sessions.

Squad will have a focus on technique, improved race skills and developing race fitness.

Junior State Squad

14 years & under
5 sessions offered per week – must attend 4.
1 dryland session per session.

Squad members must have achieved a Victorian  Sprint Championship,  State Long course or Short course 50m qualifying time or considered by the Head Coach to be close to, or working hard toward meeting state qualifying times.

Members must compete regularly at designated competitions and be able to meet the number of training sessions (including dryland/gym) required of this squad.

Squad members are considered by the Head Coach to have a high level of maturity, respect, commitment, technical skills across in at least 3 of 4 strokes and race skills, demonstrating constructive behavior and competition participation at designated targeted meets.

Senior State Squad

13 years & over
7 sessions offered per week – must attend 5.
2 dryland session per week.

Squad members must have achieved multiple State Longcourse / Short course times or be close to qualifying times > = 100m distance. Members Must also be able to meet the number of training sessions (including dryland/ gym) required of this squad. 

Members are considered by the Head Coach to demonstrate a high level of maturity, respect, commitment and technical competence across all strokes and race skills, with butterfly a key focus.

A track of record of attendance, demonstrating constructive behavior and competition participation at targeted meets. Squad will focus on optimal fitness, race skills and achievement at State Longcourse / Shortcourse championship level.

National Development Squad

13 years & over
8 sessions offered per week – must attend 7.
2 dryland session per week.

Athletes must have achieved State Longcourse qualifying times, must be considered by the Head Coach to be capable and committed to swimming at a level to achieve National Qualifying Times in the forthcoming season and be prepared to commit to at least the minimum and preferably all training sessions per week.

Members are considered by the Head Coach to demonstrate a high level of maturity, respect, commitment and technical competence across all strokes and race skills.

Squad will focus on optimal fitness, race skills and achievement at State Longcourse / Shortcourse and National Age / Open championship levels.
